Inside the Composer’s Studio

Augusta Read Thomas, composer-in-residence

Experience an inside-look of the composer’s studio as Augusta Read Thomas shares about her life as a composer—her writing process, her tone maps, as well as aspects about her piece Sonorous Earth. Thomas’ talk will be complemented by a live performance of Thomas’ Mansueto Tribute “double helix” for two violins, with choreography by Alito Alessi and dancers of DanceAbility International.

Free and open to the public.

We will conclude our two-part collaboration with Augusta Read Thomas as Third Coast Percussion performs the West Coast premier of Sonorous Earth, co-commissioned by the Eugene Symphony, which features ceremonial bells from cultures all over the world on Thursday, April 19 at 7:30 pm.

Grammy Award winner Augusta Read Thomas’s week-long artist residency with the Eugene Symphony is made possible through the generosity of the following sponsors: National Endowment for the Arts, Nils & Jewel Hult Endowment - Arts Fund of The Oregon Community Foundation, and New Music USA. Alessi's participation is made possible through a Career Opportunity Grant from the Oregon Arts Commission, and support from DanceAbility International.
