Playing plants with Angélica Negrón on October 8

Check out Puerto-Rican composer and multi-instrumentalist Angélica Negrón’s use of unconventional instruments and electronics at the Lane County Farmer’s Market Pavilion from 11am-1pm on Saturday, October 8. This interactive demonstration features the Ototo capacitive sensing technology — which converts anything (including vegetables!) into a musical instrument — as well as a demo of the MIDI Sprout, which translates biodata from plants into music. You’ll be able to try this hands-on and interactive activity yourself!

Angélica Negrón is one of two First Symphony Project Composers-in-Residence for our 2022/23 Season. On Saturday, October 8, as part of Opening Night, Eugene Symphony will perform a shorter piece by Negrón, Me he perdido. Our February concert, Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto on February 16, will feature the world premiere of Angélica Negrón’s first symphony, Symphony No. 1.

Cost: Free (No musical experience necessary)

This activity is made possible through generous support provided by the National Endowment for the Arts.
