For Schools

Eugene Symphony works closely with local schools to support music education in our community. Check out the ways our programs are igniting young people’s musical curiosity and learning in the arts!

Elementary Youth Concerts

[Grade Levels 3-5, with flexibility]

Eugene Symphony annually welcomes thousands of elementary students to our daytime Youth Concerts, opening students' eyes, ears, and imaginations to the incredible world of symphonic music. Youth Concerts are presented at the Hult Center for the Performing Arts located in downtown Eugene, Oregon.

Private Lesson Program

[Available to Eugene, Springfield, and Bethel School Districts]

Eugene Symphony's Private Lesson Program is a lesson scholarship opportunity for students who otherwise do not have the opportunity to study music with a private instructor. Participating students are nominated by their school music educators. Each selected student receives a private lesson scholarship consisting of ten (10) free lessons with an Eugene Symphony teaching artist. Students also receive a modest stipend to go towards music supplies, as well as have the opportunity to attend Eugene Symphony performances. Open to students of all ages and abilities.

A partnership between Eugene Symphony and Eugene/Springfield NAACP Branch #1119, the NAACP Scholarship Opportunity dedicates a portion of all lesson scholarships to BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) students.

The 2024/25 Private Lesson Program is generously supported by the Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation, Safeway Foundation, and is Co-Sponsored by CSI Payroll Tax funded City of Eugene Rec Youth and Teen Empowerment Programs.

Link Up

[Grade Levels 3-5, with flexibility]

Eugene Symphony proudly presents Link Up, a program of Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute, to thousands of elementary music students each year. Through the interactive Link Up music curriculum, students in Grades 3-5 learn about, listen to, and perform great music. Students learn to sing and play the recorder in music class, leading up to the Link Up Youth Concert at the Hult Center for the Performing Arts, where students perform along with the orchestra from their seats! This program is available to all public, private, and home schools.

Encouraging Young Musicians to Achieve (EYMA)

Eugene Symphony Teaching Artists visit schools throughout Lane County to work with and inspire local middle and high school music students. At no cost to participating schools, Teaching Artists drawn from the symphony’s professional ensemble, work with school band and orchestra instructors to co-develop lesson plans to meet the needs of their unique ensemble. Encouraging Young Musicians to Achieve sessions may consist of instrument-specific sectionals (group lessons), chamber ensemble coaching sessions, master classes, as well as college and career explorations.

The 2024/25 Encouraging Young Musicians to Achieve program is generously supported by the Herbert A. Templeton Foundation.

Your donation can help share the love of music with the next generation.
