Eugene Symphony Appoints Acclaimed Conductor Alex Prior as New Music Director
2025/26 Season Launch Marks the Orchestra’s 60th Anniversary
EUGENE, Ore. – The Eugene Symphony proudly announces the appointment of Alex Prior as its next Music Director, beginning with the orchestra’s 2025/26 Season. This milestone season also marks the 60th anniversary of the Eugene Symphony and heralds an exciting new era of unparalleled artistry, community engagement, and innovative programming.
A native of England, Prior was appointed Assistant Conductor of the Seattle Symphony at the age of 17. He went on to serve as Music Director of the Edmonton Symphony at the age of 22, where he championed innovative programs and broadened the orchestra’s community engagement efforts. Known for his dynamic podium presence, interpretive depth, and commitment to making symphonic music accessible to diverse audiences, Prior has conducted ensembles in major concert halls across North America, Europe, and Asia.
He follows a storied lineage of Eugene Symphony music directors that includes Marin Alsop, Giancarlo Guerrero, and Miguel Harth-Bedoya.
