Composition Master Class

Augusta Read Thomas, composer-in-residence

Join world-class composer Augusta Read Thomas for the two Composition Master Classes she will provide as part of her Composer-in-Residence status with the Eugene Symphony. Come watch as she works with student composers from the University of Oregon’s Composition Department. Each composition will be performed live by students from the University of Oregon School of Music and Dance.

These events are free and open to the public.

1) Master Class I: Tuesday, April 17 at 12:00-2:30pm; The Studio, Hult Center 

         Music by Michael Autry, Daniel DeLay, Justin Graff,
         Susanna Payne-Passmore, and Joseph Vranas   

2) Master Class II: Thursday, April 19 at 1:00-3:30pm; The Studio, Hult Center

         Music by Sarah Jordan, Stephen Medlar, Isaac Smith,
         and Luke Smith  

Each work has been mentored by UO composition faculty, Professors Robert Kyr and David Crumb. This promises to be a highlight of the year, featuring nine new works created by UO composers from our community.

The Eugene Symphony concludes our two-part collaboration with Augusta Read Thomas as Third Coast Percussion performs the West Coast premiere of Sonorous Earth, co-commissioned by the Eugene Symphony, which features ceremonial bells from cultures all over the world on Thursday, April 19 at 7:30 pm.
